[지디넷코리아]지난달 이슈가 됐던 스마트폰용 애플리케이션(이하 앱) ‘오빠믿지’가 한층 업그레이드 돼 돌아온다. 

26일 원피스에 따르면 서비스 중단 약 한 달만인 오는 29일부터 ‘오빠믿지’ 앱의 서비스가 재개된다. 

‘오빠믿지’는 연인 간 서로 위치를 확인하고 메시지도 주고받을 수 있는 무료 메신저 앱이다. 출시 후 이틀 만에 가입자 8만명을 확보하며 인기를 모았다. 

다만, 사생활침해 논란으로 홍역을 제대로 앓았다. 커플간 위치추적 기능에 여성 이용자들은 호의적인 반응을 보인 반면, 대다수 남성 이용자들은 ‘악마의 앱’이라는 별칭을 붙이며 부정적인 반응을 보였기 때문이다. 당시 ‘오빠믿지’는 주요 포털사이트 세 곳에서 실시간 인기 검색어 1위를 기록하는가 하면 공중파TV 뉴스에도 방영됐다.

논란이 되다보니 루머도 돌았다. 전원이 꺼지지 않는 이상 위치가 지속적으로 추적된다거나, 제3자가 위치정보를 알 수 있다거나 하는 식이다. 해당 앱은 실행시킨 후 이용자가 직접 위치를 업데이트해야 위치가 표시되며 앱을 깔아놓은 것만으로는 위치가 추적되지 않는다. 

원피스 관계자는 “위치추적은 윤리적으로도 문제거니와 스마트폰 제조업체의 정책적인 한계상 기술적으로도 불가능하다”며 “‘오빠믿지는 단지 자신의 위치를 상대방에게 자발적으로 보내는 개념이며 상호 동의하에 앱을 설치하고 가입한 두 커플 외에는 제3자가 위치정보 확인이 불가능하다”고 해명했다. 

논란이 되자 방송통신위원회가 나서 ‘오빠믿지’에 대한 검토를 거쳤으나 위치기반서비스(LBS) 사업 신고만 하면 문제없다는 결론을 내렸다. 원피스는 이후 서버가 폭주해 잠시 서비스를 중단했으며 그 사이 위치정보 사업자 신고 절차를 마무리 중인 것으로 알려졌다. 

다음 주부터 서비스 재개되는 ‘오빠믿지’ 업그레이드 버전은 안드로이드폰과 아이폰간 연동이 가능하다. 논란 당시 “안드로이드폰을 사길 참 잘했다”던 일부 남성 이용자들도 이제는 피할 수(?) 없게 됐다. 
플랫폼 연동 외에도 서버 안정화, 이용자 인터페이스(UI) 개선, 기능 추가 등의 내부적 보완작업도 거쳤다. 메신저로서의 기본기도 확실히 갖췄다. 

원피스 원지현 이사는 “많은 사용자들을 확보하기 위해 티스토어에 안드로이드 버전을 출시할 계획”이라며 “아이폰 버전은 현재 개발보수 마무리 단계이며 안드로이드 버전이 먼저 출시될 것”이라고 말했다.
