[지디넷코리아]아이패드와 갤럭시탭중 하나를 골라야 할까? 아니면 더 기다렸다가 다른 태블릿 제품을 사야할까?

애플과 삼성전자에 이어 내로라하는 IT업체들이 대거 태블릿 신제품을 준비중인 가운데, 소비자들의 구매 타이밍을 놓고 고민에 빠졌다.

미 IT전문 미디어 씨넷의 도날드 벨 리뷰어는  23일(현지시간) '태블릿 구매를 위해 기다려야 할까?'란 글을 통해 타이밍을 고민하는 소비자들에게 가이드를 제시해 눈길을 끌었다.

씨넷뉴스에 따르면 태블릿을 구입하고 싶은데 지금은 망설여지는 소비자는 시중에 나온 태블릿에 뭔가 아쉬운 부분이 있기 때문이다.

현재 출시된 태블릿 주요 기능은 ▲이메일 확인 ▲웹 브라우징 ▲멀티미디어 재생 ▲와이파이 ▲블루투스 무선 커뮤니케이션 ▲게임 ▲미디어 다운로드 ▲프린트 ▲키보드 지원 ▲애플리케이션(이하 앱) 스토어 ▲전자책 ▲카메라 ▲영상통화 ▲ GPS 네비게이션 등이다.

벨은 현재 나와있는 태블릿 제품들에 대해 이미 많은 기능을 제공한다고 평가했다. 어떤 부분이 추가돼야 할지 모를 정도란 것.  또 프로세서 속도, 화질, 배터리 수명 같은 부분이 개선되면 성능은 보다 좋아질 것으로 내다봤다.

그렇다면 지금 아이패드나 갤럭시탭을 사면 될 것 아닌가?

변수는 내년 4월 선보일 것으로 보이는 차세대 아이패드다. 씨넷뉴스에 따르면  새로운 아이패드는 더 얇고 강력해질 것이다. 카메라도 장착, 페이스타임 화상통화 애플리케이션도 지원할 것으로 보인다. 이런 기능을 기다려왔다면 태블릿 구매는 내년 4월까지 기다릴 필요가 있다. 하지만 애플은 중고가격도 좋은 값을 받을 수 있기 때문에 지금 아이패드를 구입하고 내년 3월에 파는 것도 좋은 방법이라고 씨넷은 설명했다. 

씨넷뉴스는 구글에서 안드로이드 기반 태블릿을 출시할 가능성도 높다고 예측했다. 씨넷뉴스는 운영체제와 애플리케이션을 태블릿에 잘 적용하면 아이패드에 큰 위협이 될 것이라고 평가했지만 ‘태블릿 구입을 위해 기다릴 필요까지 있을까?’라는 물음표도 빼놓지 않았다.

안드로이드를 제외하면 블랙베리 플레이북도 아이패드를 위협하는 경쟁상대로 보인다. 하지만 플레이북은 애플이나 구글처럼 많은 앱을 쓸 수 없다는게 단점이다. HP 슬레이트 500이 9인치 태블릿 시장을 열어줄지도 관전 포인트. 하지만 HP는 웹OS 운영체제를 사용자들과 앱 개발자들에게 알리기 위해 많은 노력을 해야한다고 씨넷뉴스는 지적했다.

기술이 발전하면 가격은 내려간다. 태블릿도 예외는 아니다. 대부분 태블릿이 필요한 기능을 대부분 탑재한 상황에서 혁신의 여지가 있는 부분은 가격이다. 내년에 저렴한 199달러(약 23만원) 태블릿이 출시 될 가능성도 높다. 하지만 가격이 저렴한 만큼 최첨단의 기술을 제공하지는 않을 것이라고 씨넷뉴스는 내다봤다.
