   월스트리트저널(WSJ)은 11일 애플의 아이패드가 출시 후 7개월간 태블릿PC 시장에서 독주한 끝에 삼성 갤럭시 탭이라는 확실한 첫 경쟁상대를 만났다고 보도했다.

   WSJ는 월터 모스버그 기자의 사용 후기 형식의 기사에서 갤럭시 탭이 아이패드와 마찬가지로 이메일과 소셜 네트워킹, 사진 보기, 음악.비디오 감상 등 랩톱 컴퓨터가 할 수 있는 다양한 기능들을 갖추고 있다면서 이같이 평가했다.

   그는 특히 갤럭시 탭은 아이패드엔 없는 카메라, 웹 비디오 구동 및 어도비 플래시 애플리케이션, 멀티태스팅 등 3가지 기능을 갖추고 있다면서 이 제품이 아이패드의 진지한 대안이 될 것이라고 밝혔다.

   하지만 그는 작은 화면 크기와 짧은 배터리 수명, 아이패드에 비해 아직 부족한 앱 등을 갤럭시 탭의 단점으로 지적했다.

   뉴욕타임스(NYT)도 이날 삼성 갤럭시 탭이 "가장 기다려졌던 안드로이드 태블릿 PC"라고 소개하면서 "화면이 화려하고 터치 반응도 좋으며 전체적으로 매우 빠르고 사용하기 즐겁다"고 평가했다.

   NYT는 애플의 스티브 잡스가 7인치 크기의 태블릿 PC에 대해 혹평했지만, 갤럭시 탭은 `답답한 아이패드'같은 느낌이 아니라 '공간이 넉넉한 안드로이드 폰'으로 느껴지며 대신 주머니에 넣고 다닐 수 있을 만큼 작고 가벼운 장점이 있다고 전했다.
