A young woman has been videoed speaking coarsely to seniors on the subway. Netizens have condemned the woman, apparently in her 20s, for addressing elder commuters in banmal, a form of speech reserved for one’s juniors and intimate friends. Dubbed ‘the subway banmal girl,’ the woman is the latest in a string of unintentional ‘film stars,’ joining the ranks of this year’s ‘assault guy’ and ‘reprobate girl.’ Early on Dec. 30, a video titled ‘subway banmal girl’ was posted on an online message board, showing a woman sitting on a Seoul subway to Sadang Station, on Line No. 2. Appearing to quarrel with an elder man standing before her, the woman yells, “I’m getting off soon so you can sit down then.” An elderly woman seated next to her advises, “Watch how you speak. You oughtn’t speak in that manner. He’s senior enough to be your father or grandfather.” To this, the young woman shouts, “It’s because I **** hate it when strangers talk to me.” “I can’t think straight as it is to stop talking to me. Why bother copping abuse for talking to a kid you don’t even know?” she continues, completely disregarding the older woman’s censure. “Look here, be careful who you disturb.
