(밴쿠버=연합뉴스) 조재용 통신원 = 1950년대 미국 유명 여배우 메릴린 먼로의 초상권 등 지적재산권 소유가 캐나다의 상표관리 회사로 넘어갔다.

   캐나다의 '오센틱 브랜드 그룹'은 먼로의 이름과 사진 등 초상권 사용권을 구매, 독점 허가권을 확보했다고 밝힌 것으로 CBC방송이 14일 전했다.

   이 회사 제이미 솔터 대표는 "메릴린 먼로의 이름과 이미지는 무한한 가치가 있다"면서 "우리가 그 미래 가치를 관리하게 돼 행운으로 생각한다"고 말했다.

   구매 가격은 알려지지 않았으나 일부에서는 5천만 달러 선일 것으로 추정하고 있다고 이 방송은 전했다.

   오센틱 그룹은 앞으로 먼로의 사진 및 영상을 각종 소비재 상품과 엔터테인먼트 제품에 쓸 수 있도록 특허사용계약 판매에 나설 계획이다.

   이 회사는 몇 해 전 레게 가수 밥 말리의 초상권을 사들이기도 했다.

   작고한 유명 연예인의 초상권 허가 사업은 연예 산업계의 주목을 받는 분야로, 마이클 잭슨의 초상권은 지난 2009년 여름 사망 이후 2억7천500만 달러를 벌어들였으며, 엘비스 프레슬리의 초상권 매출은 지난 한 해에만 6천만 달러의 실적을 올렸다고 방송은 설명했다.
