   신문에 따르면 마하라슈트라 주(州)에서 각각 양파와 바나나 농사를 짓고 있는 헴찬드라 파틸(50)과 라젠드라 파틸(40)이 오는 21일 하버드대 케네디 스쿨에서 개최되는 식량안보 심포지엄에서 자신들의 성공담을 이야기할 예정이다.

   이 대학 레이 골드버그 농학 명예교수는 두 농부의 성공담이 다른 농부들뿐 아니라 관련 산업 종사자들에게 귀중한 간접경험을 제공할 수 있을 것으로 기대했다고 신문은 전했다.

   두 농부는 처음 1에이커도 채 되지 않는 땅으로 농사를 시작했으나 지금은 각각 20헥타르(약 20만㎡)의 부지에서 엄청난 수익을 걷어들이고 있는 것으로 알려졌다.

   신문은 이들이 정규 교육을 모두 마쳤으며 정부와 사회단체, 민간부문 등 각 분야의 지원을 받아 관을 통해 농지에 물을 대는 '세류관개(Drip Irrigation)'시스템을 갖춘 것이 다른 농부들과 다른 점이라고 설명했다.

   라젠드라 파틸은 강연을 앞두고 "농사도 제대로만 한다면 부귀영화를 누리게 해줄 수 있는 엄청난 힘을 가졌다고 말할 것"이라고 밝혔다고 힌두스탄타임즈는 보도했다.
