40% of salaried workers unhappy with appearance

By Lee Hyo-sik Four out of every 10 salaried workers here are found to be discontent with their appearance, with the majority wanting to be taller and slimmer than they currently are. In a survey of 598 male and female salaried employees nationwide, conducted by online recruiter JobKorea Monday, 43.3 percent of them cited their looks as the biggest factor contributing to an inferiority complex. About 36 percent of the men said they are most concerned about their appearance, while 51 percent of females responded the same. By category, 39 percent of respondents said they would like to be taller, while 28.6 percent wanted to lose weight and 20.8 percent hoped to improve their skin texture. Respondents were allowed to give more than one answer. Following appearance, the second largest issue among salaried workers was educational background at 20.1 percent. Nearly 17 percent said they feel inadequate about their English skills, while 9.2 percent and 1.3 percent were not happy with their personality and names, respectively. Additionally, one out of every two workers said they endured disadvantages in the workplace at least once, due to their shortcomings. Around 36.6 percent responded that they felt that they suffered undue setbacks because of their appearance. About 37.4 percent said their wages increased at a slower rate, compared to other workers, because of their weaknesses. About 22.5 percent said their job performance was rated lower than it should be as a result. When asked about how much faith they have in themselves, an average worker scored 74 out of 100. 직장인 40% 외모에 콤플렉스 직장인 10명 중 4명은 외모에 불만을 가지고 있으며 과반수가 현재보다 키가 크고 날씬하기를 바라고 있다. 온라인 직장 중개소인 잡코리아는 월요일 전국에 걸쳐 남녀 598명의 직장인을 상대로 한 조사에서 43%가 외모가 최대 콤플렉스로 지목했다고 밝혔다. 남성 중 36%는 외모에 관심을 두고 있으며 여성은 51%가 외모에 신경을 쓰는 것으로 조사됐다. 39%는 키가 더 컸으면 좋겠다고 응답했고, 28.6%는 살을 뺏으면 좋겠다고 응답했고 20.8%는 피부를 개선 했으면 좋겠다고 밝혔다. 외모 다음의 콤플렉스는 학력으로 20.1가 불만이라고 털어놓았다. 17%가 영어에 자부심이 약했으며 9.2%는 자신의 성격에 불만이었고 1.3%가 이름에 불만이었다.
