미국 씨넷 등 외신들은 18일(현지시간) MS가 아이폰용 원노트 애플리케이션을 출시해, 현재 앱스토어에서 한시적으로 무료 배포중이라고 보도했다. 

원노트는 학생이나 사무직 근로자들이 일상적인 필기를 디지털 공책에 저장할 수 있게 해주는 프로그램이다. MS 워드 같은 문서(doc) 형식뿐 아니라 파워포인트 프리젠테이션(ppt)이나 엑셀 스프레드시트(xls) 등을 통합 보관할 수 있다. 현재 사용자는 미국에서만 8천만명에 이른다고 씨넷은 전했다.

아이폰용 버전에서는 '할 일 목록'이나 체크리스트 용도는 물론, 저장된 사진을 불러오거나 카메라 애플리케이션으로 찍은 이미지를 불러와 삽입할 수도 있다. 

씨넷 블로거 조시 로웬슨은 "아이폰용 원노트는 윈도폰7용 버전과 비슷한 기능을 제공한다"며 "일정한 저작툴 기능을 제공하며 윈도라이브용 웹하드 '스카이드라이브'와 동기화해 PC에서도 같은 문서를 편집할 수 있다"고 설명했다. 

아이폰용 원노트는 현재 미국 앱스토어에서 임시 무료 공개된 상태다. 등록되자마자 수백건의 평가가 올라오는 등 사용자들의 관심이 집중됐다. 기존 원노트 사용자층인 학생과 직장인들이 모바일용 애플리케이션을 통해 MS 오피스 솔루션의 활용도를 높일 수 있을 것이란 전망이다. 

제이슨 번지 MS 오피스 제품 관리 선임이사는 "우리가 광범위한 오피스 고객층에게 제공하려는 적절한 모바일 경험에서 원노트 앱은 최우선순위에 있다"며 "윈도폰7용 원노트 역시 오피스 제품을 많이 쓰게 만드는 이유가운데 하나"라고 강조했다. 

현재 무료 배포중인 아이폰용 원노트를 언제 유료화할 것인지에 대해서는 밝히지 않았다.
