(Tokyo = Yonhap News Agency) correspondent Park Se-jin = Clinical cases have been reported in Japan that inhalation drugs used to treat bronchial asthma have been used in patients with new coronavirus (Korona19).
According to television reports on Thursday, the medical team of Asagarakami Hospital and others in Kanagawa Prefecture confirmed the improvement of symptoms by using Ciclesonide, an asthma treatment drug, to three passengers aged 67 or older who were infected with Corona19 on the cruise ship "Diamond Princess."
Among these patients, a 73-year-old female patient has improved as about two days have passed since the drug was used.
The female patient, who was tested positive for Corona 19 on April 10 and was hospitalized for disembarkation, was diagnosed as negative again and was discharged on April 28.
The treatment team advised other medical institutions to try out the drug's inflammatory control function, saying it appears to be effective in Corona19.
Related information was posted on the website of the Japan Society for Influenza A.
Japan's Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare said it needs to be reviewed to see if the drug is effective in Korona19, but added that it is a welcome story since there is no cure.
