보도에 따르면 이 기술은 휴대폰과 태블릿 등의 단말기를 급속 충전하기 위한 태양 전지판 제작과 발열저하 등이 핵심 내용이다.
구체적으로 전지판으로부터 얻은 태양광 에너지를 단말기에 맞게 변환 처리, 배터리 전원으로 공급하는 기술이다. 일종의 단말기형 소형 전압 변환기(Voltage Converter)로 설명된다.
이에 따라 아이폰5는 전기 없이 단지 야외에 꺼내놓으면 충전이 가능할 것이라는 섣부른 기대까지 나왔지만 애플은 구체적인 설명을 거부했다.
