이병헌의 소속사 BH엔터테인먼트는 25일 "'외교관 구로다코사쿠'는 일본 후지TV에서 내년 1월 방송한다"며 "이병헌이 일본 드라마에 출연하는 것은 이번이 처음이며 후지TV 측의 강력한 요청으로 이뤄졌다"고 밝혔다.
후지TV 측은 "사건을 푸는 열쇠를 쥐고 있고 임팩트가 강한 역할이라 세계를 무대로 활동하고 압도적인 존재감을 가지고 있는 이병헌 씨가 적역이라고 생각했다"고 전했다.
'외교관 구로다코사쿠'는 앞서 동명의 영화가 히트했던 작품으로, 외교가를 배경으로 벌어지는 기괴한 사건을 다룬다.
오다 유지와 시바사키 고우 등 일본 인기 배우들의 출연으로 화제를 모으는 이 드라마에는 영화에서 그리지 못한 주인공 구로다의 과거와 인간스런 모습이 추가될 예정이다.
이병헌은 구로다의 오랜 친구인 한국계 미국인으로 출연, 전 대사를 영어로 연기할 예정이다.
이병헌은 "그간 일본 드라마 제작방식이 한국과 어떻게 다른가 궁금했는데 실제로 해보니 많은 부분이 비슷했던 것 같다"며 "일본 드라마는 독특한 직업, 성격의 주인공이 많다고 생각했는데 이번 드라마 역시 일반적이지 않아 흥미롭다"고 말했다.
